Code Of Conduct For Aged Care
What is the code of conduct?
The Code describes the behaviour expected of aged care providers, their governing persons and aged care workers including contractors.
The Code clearly outlines expected behaviours in the delivery of care, supports and services and applies to:
- approved aged care providers
- governing persons (e.g., board members and CEOs)
- aged care workers who are:
- employed or otherwise engaged (including on a voluntary basis) by the provider
- employed or otherwise engaged by a contractor or subcontractor of the provider to provide care or other services to consumers.
As a service provider your staff are required to understand the code and it is an important part of your and our obligations. The Government has provided a video that will help you and your staff understand what the code is:
The Code of Conduct for Aged Care:
- act with respect for people’s rights to freedom of expression, self-determination, and decision- making in accordance with applicable laws and conventions
- act in a way that treats people with dignity and respect, and values their diversity
- act with respect for the privacy of people
- provide care, supports and services in a safe and competent manner, with care and skills
- act with integrity, honesty, and transparency
- promptly take steps to raise and act on concerns about matters that may impact the quality and safety of care, supports and services
provide care, supports and services free from all forms of violence, discrimination, exploitation, and neglect, and abuse, sexual misconduct take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to all forms of violence, discrimination, exploitation, neglect, and abuse, sexual misconduct take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to all forms of violence, discrimination, exploitation, neglect and abuse, sexual misconduct.
